Milne-Edwards 1873a: 288) LECTOTYPE (by present designation). — MNHN-IU-2000-3421 (= MNHN-B3421 ), 34.1 × 42.1mm , Australia . — Original label: “ Grapsus grayi Edw. , Australie, Museum Britannique!”. PRESERVATION. — Dry. Carapace cracked on the gastric, cardiac regions; RP2 dactylus, RP3, RP4 meri and dactyli, LP2-LP4 carpi, meri and dactyli missing; pleonal somites 5, 6 damaged; telson missing. REMARKS Davie (2002: 213) indicated that the type status was uncertain. There is no doubt, however, that the above-mentioned female specimen was identified by H. Milne Edwards and corresponds to the type material. The mention on the label “Museum Britannique!” punctuated by an exclamation mark corresponds to the indication in the CAA of an exchange with the British Museum in 1849. According to Recommendation 73F of the Code , this specimen is hereby designated as lectotype .
