Comments.
Calycomyza platyptera
has already been associated to 19 genera of host-plants belonging to the
Asteraceae
family (
Benavent-Corai
et al.
2005
;
Eiseman & Lonsdale 2018
), forming blotches on the surface of the leaf. The yellowish fronto-orbital plate, white calypter and fringe, legs completely brown and the tubular aedeagus are helpful to distinguish
C. platyptera
from many others species of
Calycomyza
. Among species of this genus with a tubular aedeagus, especially that mining
Asteraceae
,
C. platyptera
has an aedeagus similar to
C. obscura
Spencer
,
C. promissa
(Frick)
,
C. minor
(Spencer)
e
C. solidaginis
(Kaltenbach)
, distinguished by the sclerotized extensions present apically in the distiphallus. This set of characteristics are useful to distinguish
C playtera
from others species of
Calycomyza
.
