McClure 9781 was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Symplocos shaefferae Merr. ( Merrill, 1923 ). However, the collecting number on the labels of the syntype specimens exist in A is 3233, while the herbarium number is Canton Christian College Herbarium 9781. Thus, the collecting number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
