Remarks Total-evidence analysis corroborated previous morphological ( Marceniuk and Menezes 2007 , Marceniuk et al. 2012 ) and molecular (Betancur-R.2009) studiesregardingthemonophylyandrelationship of the genus. Supported by morphological and molecular data, Betancur-R. et al. (2007) had the same interpretation of the phylogenetic relationship of Galeichthys , examining only Galeichthys ater and Galeichthys peruvianus , whereas Kailola (2004) , based only on morphological evidence, recognized the same species composition, but with a unique hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships. Habitat and distribution: Marine, southern Africa, and north-western coast of South America ( Fig. 4 ).
