Figs 9–11 Diagnosis. As the only species described of Gardenforsia , G. oelandica can be recognized by the characters specified in the generic diagnosis. Other male characters. Body size 1.7 mm . Head. Scape and pedicel concolorous with flagellum. Neck and node of fourth flagellomere equally long ( Fig. 11 ). Thorax. Anepisternum asetose. Wing. 3.0 times longer than wide. Setae on central and basal portions of membrane very sparse. Legs. Claws toothless. Empodia broad, as long as claws ( Fig. 10 ). Genitalia ( Fig. 9 ). Ninth tergite with two lateral groups of setae; posterior edge slightly emarginated medially. Gonocoxae: ventral setae largely confined to lateral portions; ventral bridge short; emargination deep, broadly U-shaped, reinforced by sclerotization all-around; gonocoxal processes absent; dorsal apodemes with long anterior processes. Gonostylus slightly convex, with broad, rounded lobe ventrally; exterior surface with large setae of various lengths, interior setae shorter and finer except 2–3 longer bristles. Ejaculatory apodeme thin, clearly longer than tegmen. Etymology. The species name refers to Öland, the Baltic island off Sweden’s southeast coast, where the types of this species were collected.
