Notes.
Lasioglossum sheffieldi
is a sand dune specialist, originally described from coastal areas of the Canadian Maritime Provinces and the western bank of the St. Lawrence River in
Quebec
(
Gibbs 2010b
). Two additional specimens, one from a
Manitoba
dune system and the other from the west coast of Lake
Michigan
in
Wisconsin
, were examined but not included as
paratypes
due to their disjunct localities (
Gibbs 2010b
). A long series of males and females were recently examined from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which fills an important gap in the known distribution of this species, and points to the likelihood of additional unknown localities in other dune and lakeshore habitats, which may connect the inland populations to the populations on the Atlantic
Coast
.
