Diagnosis.
Ammophila yaroslavi
has a glabrous propodeal enclosure, submarginal cell III petiolate, apex of the metasoma without blue reflexes, and legs red. The male differs from all species with a petiolate submarginal cell III in having red legs. The female is similar to
A. cellularis
Gussakovskij,

in having the glabrous propodeal enclosure, submarginal cell III petiolate, and red legs and metasoma, but differs in having a predominately red mandible and a different shape of the apical margin of the clypeus, by the more developed appressed silvery setae on the body: the
mesosoma
entirely (except the propodeal enclosure and the medial part of the scutal disk) with dense appressed silvery setae concealing the integument (
Ammophila cellularis
has the mesopleuron with a spot of dense appressed silvery setae and the propodeum with sparse appressed silvery setae, not concealing integument).
Description. Clypeus, subantennal sclerite, paraocular area, frons, and gena with dense appressed silvery setae. Vertex and occiput slightly shiny, with scattered punctures. Erect setae pale. Supra-antennal lamellate projection absent.
Mesosoma
entirely (except propodeal enclosure and scutal disk in female) with dense appressed silvery setae and pale erect setae. Propodeal enclosure glabrous, obliquely striate, with inconspicuous, scattered appressed silvery setae anteriorly. Tegula red.
Wings
hyaline; veins and stigma reddish. Submarginal cell III petiolate. Claws without teeth.
Male. Body length
12–13 mm
.
Head
(
Fig 22
). Clypeus not elongate. Mandible red in basal half, brown apically; palpi and antennae black.
Mesosoma
(
Figs 21, 23, 24
). Pronotal collar rounded dorsally.
Legs
red (except coxae and hindtarsi), pruinose. Coxae black with dense appressed silvery setae. Hindtarsi brownish.
Metasoma.
Petiole (
Fig 24
), T1-T5, S1-S5 red; T6-T7, and S6-S7 black with no blue reflexes. Metasoma slightly pruinose. Penis valve:
Fig 25
.
Female. Body length
14–15 mm
.
Head
(
Fig 27
). Clypeus slightly convex medially; apical margin red. Mandible red in basal half and black apically; palpi black. Scape red ventrally, brown and with appressed silvery setae dorsally; pedicel black and reddish apically; flagellomeres black.
Mesosoma
(
Figs 26, 28
). Pronotum slightly emarginated medially. Scutal disk shiny.
Legs
red (except coxae), pruinose. Coxae reddish-brown with dense appressed silvery setae.
Metasoma.
Entirely red, pruinose.
