Clifford et al. (1973) treated Ixodes rugicollis as a doubtful species, but it is valid. Hornok et al. (2017c) found Ixodes rugicollis in Hungary , but this tick is not listed as present there in Hornok et al. (2020a) , and Hungary is therefore considered outside the geographic range of this tick.
