C. castanescens is very closely related to C. caera , but C . castanescens has smaller, triangular socii, an oblique proximal edge of the distal portion of the costa, and a broader subterminal part of the cucullus. Description. Wing span 19 mm . Male: Head pale brownish grey, thorax darker brown. Forewing termen slightly concave. Ground colour cream, forming two weak dorsal patches, the posterior suffused yellow-brown; otherwise strongly suffused brownish with browner strigulation; costal strigulae small; divisions brown; terminal area rust brown; ocellus slightly paler than adjacent ground colour; markings brownish, diffuse. Ground colour variable, more or less dark in some specimens; cream strigulated brown in pale specimens; brown markings often with rust suffusions. Cilia brown-grey. Hindwing cream brown, cilia creamer. Genitalia ( Fig. 8 ) with uncus small, straight apically; socius triangular; valva with an oblique proximal edge of distal half of costa, broad subterminal part of cucullus; aedeagus simple, slender. Female: Head and thorax as in male. Genitalia ( Fig. 21 ) with posterior edge of sterigma nearly straight; antrum sclerite short, tapering proximally; folds of subgenital sternite slender, straight; cingulum long; signa slender. Holotype male: " Mexico : Chiapas, San Cristobal de las Casas, 2300 m , 23–27. VI. 1981 , V.O. Becker Col; Col. Becker 43774"; GS 844 WZ. Six male paratypes with same data, one female with GS 843 ZW and Colln Nr. 43775. Etymology. The name refers to the forewing colour; Latin: castanescens—chestnut colour.
