Supraphorura
Stach, 1954
Stach (1954)
defined the genus
Supraphorura
, and posteriorly
Weiner (1996)
and
Pomorski (1998)
enriched its diagnosis with additional characters. It belongs to the tribe
Protaphorurini
due to the presence of simple vesicles on PAO, absence of the chaeta d0 on head, presence of anal spines on Abd. 6, and a complete distal whorl of chaetae (11) on the tibiotarsi.
Supraphorura
differs from
Protaphorura
by the presence of furca remnants as two knobs (
vs.
a cuticular fold). Further diagnostic features of the genus are: body granulation more or less uniform, distinct; dorsal chaetotaxy well or poorly differentiated into macro- and microchaetae; sensilla on head and body invisible (hardly differentiated from the regular chaetae); sensilla of the Ant. 4 weakly differentiated, microsensillum in latero-external position, ca 1/3 the length from the base; AIIIO with 5 papillae, 5 guard chaetae, 2 granulated sensory clubs and 2 sense rods; antennal bases distinct, with 3+3 pso; labrum with 9 chaetae and 4 prelabrals; PAO oval, with numerous simple vesicles, perpendicular to the long axis of the organ; chaeta d0 on head absent; head with 2+2 dorso-posterior pso; labium of
type
A with 7 guard chaetae, proximal field with 6 or 7 chaetae; maxillary palp simple, with 2 sublobal hairs; Th. 1 without pso, Th. 2 with 1 or 2 pso, Th. 3 to Abd. 3 with few pso, Abd. 4 with 3+3 pso, Abd. 5 with 2+2 or 3+3 pso; Th. 2–3 with 1 microsensillum each, laterally; Abd. 6 with one median chaeta; strong anal spines on distinct papillae; head with 1 ventral pso, ventral pso on the body absent; distal tibiotarsal whorl with 11 chaetae in all legs; claws with denticle; retinaculum with 2+2 teeth; a reduced furca present, dens with 3 chaetae and blunt-tipped reduced mucro.
