Remarks.
The genus was erected as part of a taxonomic key (
Boulard & Martinelli 1996
) leading to much confusion as to how the taxon should be applied. The first complete description was provided in a recent revision of the genus (
Sanborn 2016a
). The absence of bright green fore wing basal areas and bright red hind wing basal areas, head as wide or slightly wider than the mesonotum, lack of prominent stylate eyes extending anteriorly, eyes extending slightly beyond anterior pronotal angle, parallel fore wing radial and radiomedial crossveins, male opercula roughly forming a right triangle, and timbal covers with rounded anterior apex and ventral margin parallel to long body axis distinguish species of
Guyalna
from other
Guyalnina
. The most similar genus to
Guyalna
is
Dorisiana
but species of
Guyalna
can be distinguished by a head as wide or wider than the mesonotum, eyes extending slightly beyond lateral pronotal edges, timbal covers with rounded apex, timbal cover ventral margin parallel to long body axis, and lateral lobe of uncus extending further than found in species of
Dorisiana
(
Sanborn 2016a
)
.
Distribution.
Species of the genus are found over much of the Neotropics including references to
