Now
:
Euplectes gierowii friederichseni
G.A.
Fischer & Reichenow, 1884a
.
See
Amadon et al. (1962: 66)
.
Holotype
: ZMH 6879 (Fischer no. 886), skin, former mount, male, collected at Nguruman, 24.06.[18]83.
Type locality
: “
Nguruman (Massai)” [“
Nguruman Salzsteppe
” = area close to the base of the
Nguruman Escarpment
,
Kajiado County
,
Kenya
], from the original description as well as locality of the
holotype
.
Remarks
: In the original description no type was chosen, and there were no inventory numbers for specimens provided, but measurements for
one specimen
and the locality “Nguruman (Massai)” were given. As Fischer (1884) listed only
one specimen
for this species (no. 886), ZMH 6879 is the
holotype
, and was mentioned as the type in
Bolau (1898)
.
Fischer
collected this specimen on his return journey to the coast.
He
followed the river valley at the base of the
Nguruman Escarpment
that drains into a swampy area north of
Lake
Natron. On
24 June 1883
he would have been at approximately
02°05’S
,
34°10’E
.
