Female: cibarium with 4 to 8 horizontal teeth, vertical teeth variable, but always present, complete arch, and prominent pigmented patch (Young & Duncan 1994, Galati 2003).
Remarks.
Three subgenera of genus

are recognized by Galati (1995, 2003):
Ps. (Forattiniella)
Vargas, 1978,
Ps. (
Xiphomyia
)
Artemiev, 1991, and
Ps. (Psathyromyia) sensu stricto
. Seven species belonging to the three subgenera have been recorded in
Mexico
; six species were found in this work.
