Lutzomyia (Lutzomyia) longipalpis (Lutz and Neiva) : Young and Duncan 1994 , 56 (references, taxonomy, distribution); Ibáñez-Bernal 1999 , 94 (diagnosis, references, Mexican distribution); Galati 2003 , 36, 91, 92 (list, keys). Lutzomyia longipalpis has been associated with the transmission of Leishmania chagasi Cunha and Chagas, the causal agent of visceral leishmaniasis. In Mexico , this species was known from localities of the states of Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Puebla, Quintana Roo and Yucatán ( Ibáñez-Bernal 1999 ).
