Lutzomyia longipalpis
has been associated with the transmission of
Leishmania chagasi
Cunha
and Chagas, the causal agent of visceral leishmaniasis. In
Mexico
, this species was known from localities of the states of Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Puebla, Quintana Roo and Yucatán (
Ibáñez-Bernal 1999
). This is the first record of the species in Veracruz.
