Sutorý , stat. et comb. nova . Basionym :— Cacalia anomala Smith (1813: 179) . Senecio anomalus (Sm.) Candolle (1838: 310) . Type :— GREECE . Mt. Athos , [ August 1787 ], J . Sibthorp ( OXF , lectotype designated here, on two sheets; isolectotype: BM001025972 ) . As the lectotype , according to the guidelines of Lack (1997) , I selected a specimen from the original Sibthorp’s collection that bears an original Smith’s label. Diagnosis :—Involucres and the synflorescence woolly tomentose. ( Fig. 4 B ). Distribution :—Its range is limited to a small area of the Athos peninsula (Khalkidhiki, Greece ), probably almost exclusively to its southern calcareous part. Strid & Strid (2013) mention a locality on the southern slopes of Athos where probably most of the known specimens were collected. Glabrous plants have not been recorded from this calcareous area. This stenoendemic subspecies adds to the more than 20 endemic plant taxa at various rank known from this small territory (our estimations). Shishkin (1961) erroneously stated that Senecio anomalus (Sm.) DC. is a vicariate species growing in the whole Balkans. Smith’s (1813) original brief diagnosis did not mention the pubescence of plants from Athos . “C [ acalia ] anomala , floribus paniculatis, radio uniflosculoso, foliis pinnatifidis inciso-serratis acutis glabris. Caulis humanae fere altitudinis. Folia sesquipedalia, multijuga. Flores copiosi, aurei, omnes flosculo ligulario solitario, patente, notabiles. In monte Athô. Icon Fl. Graec. T. 872ˮ. This character was much later mentioned in a more comprehensive description in Flora Graeca ( Lindley 1839: 56 ). “… Capitula numerosa, in corymbum nunc pedem fere latum disposita; pedunculis tomentosis, sparse bracteolatis. Involucrum tomentosum, pentaphyllum; … ˮ. The pubescence is well visible in the early spring. Plants collected later must be observed more carefully because the soft hairs are pressed to the stems or involucral bracts and are less conspicuous. This is probably due to the influence of the weather, mainly rain. Examined specimens were collected by eight collectors: GREECE :— Aucher - Éloy P . M . R .: Herbier d’Orient 1836, sec.
