Ixodes inopinatus Estrada-Peña, Nava & Petney, 2014 . Palearctic: 1) Algeria , 2) Austria , 3) Germany , 4) Morocco , 5) Portugal , 6) Romania , 7) Spain , 8) Tunisia , 9) Turkey ( Estrada-Peña et al. 2017 , Bursali et al. 2020 , Rubel et al. 2021 , Rubel & Brugger 2022 ). Ixodes inopinatus was confused with Ixodes ricinus prior to its description by Estrada-Peña et al. (2014) .According to Estrada-Peña et al. (2017) , some records of Ixodes festai and Ixodes ventalloi from France and Italy may in fact be Ixodes inopinatus , while Norte et al. (2021) suggested that some 16S sequences of Ixodes inopinatus in GenBank belong to another species. See also Ixodes ricinus for a discussion of that species’ confusion with Ixodes inopinatus .
