Ninth tergite developed and prolonged, completely covering the main structures of the male terminalia, both dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 1E , 2E ). Cerci without modifications or branches ( Fig. 1F , 2F ). Male subgenital plate with a triangular prolongation in the middle of the styli ( Fig. 1G , 2G ). Tegmina without exceeding the ninth abdominal tergite ( Fig. 1C , 2B ). Fore and mid tibiae with four ventral spines on each side, these spines are short compared to the other Gryllacridinae genera from the Neotropical region. Taxa included. Magnumtergalis aldarioarenasi n. sp. ( type species, here designated) and M. albonigra n. comb. Etymology. From Latin Magnum (big) and tergum (segment or tergite). Referring to the prolongation of the penultimate abdominal tergite. Gender: masculine. FIGURE 1. Magnumtergalis aldarioarenasi n. sp. male. A. Habitus in lateral view. B. Frons and legs. C. Frons. D-G. Terminalia in lateral, dorsal, latero-ventral and ventral view respectively. Photos: M. Paris (MNCN). Description. Small-sized (body length 11-12 mm ) and robust ( Fig. 1A , 2A, B ). Coloration. Yellowish-brown ( Fig. 1 ) or black ( Fig. 2 ), varies between species. Head prominent, space between antennal sockets 2.5 times the width of antennal scape ( Fig. 1B , 2C ); ocelli reduced with a diffuse edge; elongated maxillary palps with the last segment noticeably dilated at the apex. Thorax. Pronotum narrow and smooth, with quadrangular disc and lateral lobes; humeral notch undeveloped; auditory spiracle below the lower margin of the lateral lobe of the pronotum and armed with a conspicuous spine ( Fig. 1C, 1A, B ). Legs. Fore coxa without spines, but with a dorsal tubercle. Fore and mid femora unarmed; fore and mid tibiae with four small spines on each ventral margin and one spine on each side of the apex ( Fig. 1B ); hind femur thickened and robust ( Fig. 1D ); distal half of hind tibia with two or three spines on the dorsal-outer margin and two spines on the dorsal-inner margin, apex with three spurs on each side, being the medial spur the most conspicuous. Wings. Ovoid, longer than wide, with a rounded apex and not exceeding the abdomen ( Fig. 1C, 1B ). Abdomen. Stridulatory apparatus present with few denticulations or pegs, located on each side of the third abdominal tergite. Ninth abdominal tergite extending into an elongated and wide hood, covering other structures of the terminalia ( Fig. 1 E-F, 2E-F). Cerci simple without branches. Subgenital plate with a triangular prolongation at the posterior edge; styli present, conical or cylindrical ( Fig. 1G , 2G ). Female. Unknown. Distribution. The central slope of the Andes and Inter-Andean valleys of Magdalena Medio in Colombia . Comparison. This new genus differs from the other Progryllacridini genera, as it is the only one with brachypterous species. In addition, the ninth tergite is modified, extending notably and covering the other structures of the male terminalia; this this has not been observed in the other genera of the tribe. Genera or species with similar characteristics regarding the prolongation of the ninth tergite are Gorochovgryllacris Cadena-Castañeda, 2019 , and Dinolarnaca deinura Gorochov, 2008 ( Gryllacridinae : Gryllacridini), these two are Old World taxa, Hyperbaenus griffini and H. fiebrigi Griffini, 1908 (Hyperbaeninae: Hyperbaeniini) are Neotropical species, which differ from Magnumtergalis n. gen. , because they are macropterous species and the prolongation of the ninth tergite is not expanded at the apex. Key to known Magnumtergalis n. gen. species 1. Yellowish-brown coloration ( Fig. 1 ), tegmina not touching each other and reaching the third abdominal tergite ( Fig. 1C ). Ninth tergite with the apex expanded towards the sides ( Fig. 1F ); paraprocts thickened and cylindrical ( Fig. 1E )................................................................................................. M. aldarioarenasi n. sp. - Black coloration ( Fig. 2 ), tegmina overlapped and reaching the eighth abdominal tergite ( Fig. 2B ). Ninth tergite with the apex not expanding noticeably to the sides ( Fig. 1E ), instead the lateral edges curve downwards; paraprocts reduced, not thickened and cylindrical ( Fig. 1F )............................................................... In addition to the characters mentioned for the generic description: Coloration. Yellowish-brown ( Fig. 1A ). Head. Rounded and prominent; ocelli circular and reduced, with diffused edges; antennal scape thickened and disarmed ( Fig. 1B ). Pronotum. Smooth and shiny, with two sulci dividing the pronotal zones and connecting on lateral lobes ( Fig. 1C ). Legs. Hind femur with three conspicuous spines on the ventral-outer margin and two on the ventralinner margin. Distal half of hind tibia with two dorsal spines on both margins; all genicular lobes unarmed ( Fig. 1D ). Wings. Tegmina reaching the third abdominal tergite, not touching each ( Fig. 1C ). Abdomen. Ninth tergite thickened and projecting conspicuously, curving downward since the middle ( Fig. 1E ), apex expanded laterally, distal edges rounded and constricted near the apex ( Fig. 1F ), distal portion truncated and partially curved inward, posterior margin with a medial V-shaped notch ( Fig. 1G ). Cerci cylindrical, slightly curving inward and with the apex over the medial portion of the ninth tergite. Paraprocts twice as thick and two-thirds as long as the cerci, entirely covered by the ninth tergite, with the same thickness throughout its length and rounded apex ( Fig. 1E ). Epiproct not visible.
