Tapia ( AMNH ). Etymology. The specific epithet is a Latin adjective in reference to the turquoise color of the abdomen. Diagnosis. Males and females can be distinguished from all Ochyrocera by their bright turquoise abdomen, apically with purplish chevrons ( Fig. 18 ). Furthermore males can be diagnosed from all Ochyrocera by their unique horn-shaped cymbial apophysis ( Fig. 19 ); females can be diagnosed by their dark spermathecae and median thumbshaped projection ( Fig. 22 ). Description. Male : Total length: 0.7; carapace length: 0.3; carapace width: 0.3. PROSOMA: Carapace ovoid; narrowing gradually anteriorly; shiny, light yellow, lateral sides with purplish pattern ( Fig. 18 ); fovea not visible. Sternum light yellow, suffused with purplish tinge; as long as wide. Endites light yellow suffused with purplish tinge; labium light yellow suffused with purplish tinge; notch. Clypeus sloping; short, diameter of PME. Chelicerae light yellow; promargin with a series of eight teeth attached to the lamina; retromargin without teeth. EYES: Six contiguous eyes surrounded by black pigmentation about equal size; PME elongated oval; ALE rounded; PLE rounded. OPISTHOSOMA: Oval; turquoise, apical end with purplish chevrons; tracheal spiracle half way between epigastric furrow and spinnerets. LEGS: Light yellow; leg formula: 4123; total length: I: 1.6; II: 1.4; III: 1.1; IV: 1.7. GENITALIA: Palpal femur long; palpal tibia with two dorsal trichobothria ( Fig. 19 ). Cymbium extension not observed, rounded dorsally, with wide horn-shaped apical apophysis bearing cuspule at tip ( Figs 19, 20 ). Bulb oval ( Fig. 20 ). Embolus elongated, spine-liked, flexed at base and projecting upward; sperm duct narrowing 1/2 from beginning to the tip of embolus, with two loose loops ( Figs 19, 20 ). Female : Total length: 0.9; carapace length: 0.4; carapace width: 0.3. PROSOMA: Carapace as in male. Chelicerae, light yellow; promargin with a series of seven teeth reaching the lamina; retromargin without denticles. Sternum, endites and labium: as in male. OPISTHOSOMA: As in male. LEGS: As in male; leg formula; 4123; total length: I: 1.5; II: 1.4; III: 1.2; IV: 1.7. GENITALIA: Epigynal region somewhat swollen with W-shaped median sclerotization ( Fig. 21 ). Internal genitalia with semi-transparent, thumbshaped projection, spermathecae dark with transparent apical end ( Fig. 22 ). Distribution. Ecuador : Cotopaxi and Santo Domingo de las Tsáchilas Provinces. Natural history. Collected in moss and sifting litter between 1209–1888 m .
