.
This genus comprises a single species which exhibits sexual dimorphism in the body setae. Females have setae flattened and fan-shaped, a particularly uncommon condition for members of
Thripinae
, whereas males have normal setaceous setae. The only known species in the genus was described from
Thailand
, based on about
50 specimens
of both sexes taken from bamboo. During our sampling in the northern part of Peninsular
Malaysia
, we collected four females of this species. Initially it seemed these might represent an undescribed species as the following character states differed from the original description: (1) abdominal tergites III–VII anteromedian area sculptured; (2) fore wing clavus with four veinal setae; (3) abdominal tergites II–VII with brown marking medially, segments VIII–X uniformly pale. However,
paratype
specimens of
yasuakii
were kindly loaned by Dr Masami Masumoto, and these did not differ from the Malaysian specimens discussed above. The only difference was that the specimens from
Malaysia
have antennal segments I and II completely pale.
