Linnaeus.
Current name:
Dioscorea communis
(L.) Caddick & Wilkin
(
Dioscoreaceae
).
Note:
Labani (in Jafri & El-Gadi,
Fl. Libya
70: 2. 1980) indicated 1181.1 (LINN) as type. However, the material came from Brander and was not received by Linnaeus until 1756 so it cannot be original material for the name. Caddick & al. (in
Taxon
51: 112. 2002) indicated "plate on Hort. Cliff. p. 458" as type but no illustration of this taxon appears to be figured in that work.
