MALACONOTHRIDAE
Berlese, 1916
Berlese (1896b, pp. 26-27) classified
Nothrus monodactylus Michael
(1888, p. 528, pl. 45 figs. 10-14) as
Angelia monodactyla
with the
Nothridae
1). Afterwards (Berlese, 1913a) the genus
Malaconothrus
Berlese, 1904 (to which
monodactylus
belongs) was classified in a tribe (
Michaeliini
) of this family. Finally, Berlese (1916a, pp. 175, 176) created a separate family
Malaconothridae
, consisting of the tribes
Malaconothrini
and
Lohmannini
. At present the genera
Malaconothrus
Berlese (1904) and
Trimalaconothrus
Berlese (1916) are the only representatives of the family;
Mucronothrus
Traegardh
(1931) is according to Hammer (1958, p. 25) related to
Trhypochthoniellus
.
1) Berlese (1896b) records
A. monodactyla
from England only; possibly he had not seen the species.
