Comments. This species occupies very distinct habitats, consisting of slow flowing or stagnant water, fresh or brackish, up to 380 m asl. It was first recorded from Tunisia by Omer-Cooper (1930) under the name of Anisops canariensis Noualhier in southern localities (Teboulbou, Gabès). Distribution. It occurs in South Europe ( Portugal , Spain and Sicily), Middle East ( Iran , Iraq , Israel , and Saudi Arabia ), North Africa, Cape Verde , Djibouti , Senegal (Polhemus 1995; Carapezza 1997 ; Larsen & Blaustein 2005 ).
