The water striders (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerridae) of Costa Rica: new species, checklist, and new records Author Pacheco-Chaves, Bernald Author Cordeiro, Isabelle Da Rocha Silva Author Moreira, Felipe Ferraz Figueiredo Author Springer, Monika text Zootaxa 2018 2018-09-06 4471 3 493 522 journal article 29467 10.11646/zootaxa.4471.3.4 3da0d889-944e-465a-8a94-c6fde5cda633 1175-5326 1439932 C83B3937-4CFA-4B2D-972C-C95DE896D85C Tachygerris cf. surinamensis Hungerford & Matsuda, 1958 ( Fig. 12 ) We have several males and females from Alajuela Province that agree well with T. surinamensis . However, because the known distribution of the species is restricted to northern Brazil and Suriname , and no specimens have been examined in two recent revisions of the genus ( Morales & Molano 2009 , Mondragón et al. 2017), our identification is provisional, pending confirmation. If confirmed, the first record from Costa Rica would represent a wide westward expansion of the range of this species. Our material was collected in the same type of habitats as those of T. opacus and T. quadrilineatus , in the Atlantic and Pacific slopes up to 876 m a.s.l. Material examined .
