Round, small septulum (following Guidetti & Bertolani (2001) ; since in Ramazzotti & Maucci (1983) , they have doubts if there is a microplacoid or a septulum; however, in small specimens it was difficult to determine if it was a microplacoid or a septulum) was observed in specimens belonging to 20% of the samples where the species appeared. Some specimens had cuticle bars between the double-claws of the fourth pair of legs as in Bertolani (1982) . Mean body size was 524 μm (SD 127), range 209 to 1111 μm. The species is considered cosmopolitan ( McInnes 1994 ). In the Iberian Peninsula, in has been recorded for Spain ( Rodríguez Roda 1952 ; Mihelčič 1954 ; Maucci & Durante Pasa 1984 ; Maucci 1991 ) and Portugal ( Da Cunha 1941 ; Fontoura 1982 ; Maucci & Durante Pasa 1985 ). Hypsibius convergens was collected from 40 of our sampling points (Table 3).
