Harpalus
cordatus (LeConte, 1853)
Cratognathus cordatus
LeConte, 1853c: 381. Type locality: "New Mexico" (original citation), herein restricted to Albuquerque, Bernalillo County (see Noonan 1991: 99). Lectotype (♀), designated by Noonan (1991: 95), in MCZ [# 5913].
Harpalus tadorcus
Ball, 1972: 185. Replacement name for
Harpalus cordatus
(LeConte, 1853).
Distribution.
This species is restricted to arid grasslands in eastern Arizona, southern Colorado, and New Mexico [see Noonan 1991: Fig. 276].
Records.
USA
: AZ, CO, NM
Note.
Ball (1972: 185) proposed
Harpalus tadorcus
to replace
Harpalus cordatus
(LeConte, 1853), a junior secondary homonym of
Harpalus cordatus
(Duftschmid, 1812), both species being then placed in the genus
Harpalus
. Since
Duftschmid's
species is currently included in the genus
Ophonus
and the replacement name was proposed after 1960, the original species-group name is to be reinstated (ICZN 1999: Article 59.4).
