Diagnosis
. As for the genus, see above.
Description
. Body length
4.95–5.05 mm
, maximum width
1.85–1.90 mm
.
Head about 1.4 times as long as wide, with bunch of golden setae in middle of anterior part of rostrum, width of rostrum about 0.4 of width of head; eyes large, protuberant, temples long, sinuate posteriad, slightly more than twice as long as eyes.
Antennae about 3.85–4.00 mm long, all antennomeres except 10 elongate, scape very long, as long as length of antennomeres 2–9 combined, pedicel asymmetrical, shortest, its outer margin (inner margin much shorter) 0.85 of length of antennomere 3, 4 1.35 times as long as 3 and 1.12 times as long as 5, antennomeres 6–7 subequal in length, about 1.2 as long as 5, antennomere 9 about 1.1 times as long as 8 and 9 which are subequal in length, 10 transverse, 1.05 times as wide as long, terminal antennomere parallel-sided in basal half, from middle convergent to rounded apex, about 2.1 times as long as 10 and 1.7 times as long as wide,
Pronotum hexagonal, transverse, about 1.07 times as wide as long, with bunch of golden setae on sides.
Elytra about 1.6 times as long as pronotum, about as long as abdomen.
Aedeagus (
Figs 16–17
) asymmetrical,
1.32 mm
long, about 1.6 times as long as wide.
Distribution
.
Cameroon
(Mount
Cameroon
).
Collecting circumstances
. All specimens of
Ewoma longiscapa
available for this study were collected using flight interception traps (FITs) on the eastern slope of Mount
Cameroon
, close to the Bokwango Village at an elevation of about
1000 m
. The close surrounding of the village, towards the East border of Mt.
Cameroon
National Park is agriculturally used landscape, a mosaic of farmland, small fragments of forest, and some irregularly distributed robust solitary trees, turning to primary rainy forest upwards. Although the number of collected pselaphine beetles was very high as well as their diversity at both species and genus level, surprisingly, no specimen of
E. longiscapa
was collected on main research plots on the southern slope of Mt.
Cameroon
(see Introduction) so far.
Natural history.
No other details concerning the ecology of this species are known.
Etymology.
The named is referring to the very long scape of the species.
