Comments.
Prof. Mao-Ling Sheng kindly donated two females and two males identified as
Townesia qinghaiensis
, from
Inner Mongolia
.
Li
et al.
(2019)
illustrated the ovipositor tip of
Townesia qinghaiensis
in detail. These specimens and illustrations agree with the original description (
He
et al.
1996
): the name is a junior synonym of the widespread
Liotryphon strobilellae
. He (in
He
et al.
1996
) described the species based on specimens reared from
Cydia strobilella
(Linnaeus)
(
Lepidoptera
:
Tortricidae
), a frequent host of
L. strobilellae
, whereas the European
Townesia tenuiventris
(Holmgren)
is a parasitoid of solitary aculeates (e.g.,
Jussila & Käpylä 1975
); the hosts of other
Townesia
Ozols
species are unknown.
