.
"Habitat in Europae cultis, ruderatis, succulentis." RCN: 6275.
Lectotype

127: 87. 1993): Herb. Clifford: 406,
Senecio
1, sheet A (BM-000647048)
.
Generitype
of
Senecio
Linnaeus
(vide Green,
Prop. Brit. Bot.
: 181. 1929).
Current name:
Senecio vulgaris
L.
(
Asteraceae
).
Note:
Alexander (in
Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh
37: 408. 1979) noted the existence of 996.7 (LINN) but did not indicate it as type. Jeffrey & Chen Yi-Ling (in
Kew Bull.
39: 428. 1984) and Jeffrey (in
Kew Bull.
41: 904. 1986) treated the
Hortus Cliffortianus
polynomial as the type, and Nordenstam (in Rechinger,
Fl. Iranica
164: 83. 1989) indicated Clifford material as the type. However, his statement did not distinguish between the two collections there associated with this name. As they are evidently not part of a single gathering, Art. 9.15 does not apply. Consequently,
Jeffrey's
1992 type choice is accepted.
