Etymology
. The new genus is named for its
terra typica
, North
Macedonia
, with the addition of the suffix -
meris
, which is commonly used in the order
Glomerida
. The name is a feminine noun.
Diagnosis
. The new genus is clearly distinguished from all other genera of the order
Glomerida
, with the exception of
Trachysphaera
,
Epiromeris
and
Tectosphaera
Mauriès, 2005
, by the presence of a characteristic deep lateral pit (“Ohrgrube”) on both sides of the thoracic shield (e.g.
Fig. 5F, H
).
Macedomeris
gen. nov.
differs from
Trachysphaera
by the absence of striking ornamentation on tergites (vs. present in
Trachysphaera
); from
Epiromeris
and
Tectosphaera
by tergite 11 and the anal shield being fused and lacking a large medial hump/protrusion (vs. tergite 11 not fused with the anal shield and featuring a very conspicuous medial hump/protrusion on tergite
11 in
Epiromeris
and
Tectosphaera
). In addition,
Macedomeris
gen. nov.
differs from other
Glomerida
by its general appearance, the presence of 2 or 3 vestigial ommatidia and a very wide syncoxite of a 2-segmented leg-pair

the male.
