The new genus is named for its terra typica , North Macedonia , with the addition of the suffix - meris , which is commonly used in the order Glomerida . The name is a feminine noun. Diagnosis . The new genus is clearly distinguished from all other genera of the order Glomerida , with the exception of Trachysphaera , Epiromeris and Tectosphaera Mauriès, 2005 , by the presence of a characteristic deep lateral pit (“Ohrgrube”) on both sides of the thoracic shield (e.g. Fig. 5F, H ). Macedomeris gen. nov. differs from Trachysphaera by the absence of striking ornamentation on tergites (vs. present in Trachysphaera ); from Epiromeris and Tectosphaera by tergite 11 and the anal shield being fused and lacking a large medial hump/protrusion (vs. tergite 11 not fused with the anal shield and featuring a very conspicuous medial hump/protrusion on tergite 11 in Epiromeris and Tectosphaera ). In addition, Macedomeris gen. nov. differs from other Glomerida by its general appearance, the presence of 2 or 3 vestigial ommatidia and a very wide syncoxite of a 2-segmented leg-pair 17 in the male. Type species : Macedomeris ivoi Antić sp. nov. , by present designation and monotipy. Description . See below.
