Restricted to the western part of Europe (incl. the Mediterranean region); also North Africa.

Ecology.
Similar distribution over macrohabitat categories as previous species. In northwestern Europe,
H. verbekei
is mainly found in marshlands and reedmarshes in the coastal region (
Pollet 1993
).
