Belongs to the tribe Mindini ( Riccardi & Amorim 2020 ) . It has nine valid species in the Palearctic region ( Ismay et al. 2021 ) where the species live in galls of reeds as inquilines ( Nartshuk & Andersson 2013 ). The diagnostic morphological features of Cryptonevra include body black with yellowish tarsi ( Fig. 3A ); gena about as wide as postpedicel height; wing with crossveins approximated, R4+5 and M1 divergent ( Fig. 3A ); tibial organ present; male mid femur usually with distinct femoral organ; male terminalia without anal sclerites, mesolobus never wider than long, surstylus short, with wide base and apex with spines (see Ismay et al. 2021 ; Riccardi & Amorim 2020 ).
