Linum usitatissimum
Linnaeus
,
Species Plantarum
1
: 277. 1753
.
"Habitat hodie inter segetes Europae australis." RCN: 2204.
Lectotype
(Seegeler in
Taxon
38: 278, f. 1. 1989): Herb. Clifford: 114,
Linum
1 (BM-000558456)
.
Generitype
of
Linum
Linnaeus
(vide Hitchcock,
Prop. Brit. Bot.
: 143. 1929).
Current name:
Linum usitatissimum
L.
(
Linaceae
).
Note:
Kulpa & Danert (in
Kulturpflanze
3: 342. 1962) indicated a Brander collection (396.1 LINN), not received by Linnaeus until 1756, as type but it cannot be original material for the name. Rechinger (
Fl. Iranica
106: 17. 1974) indicated Clifford material as
"syntypi"
, but the two sheets preserved at BM are not a single collection so Art. 9.15 does not apply. Seegeler is therefore the first to have made an explicit choice of
lectotype
.
