A checklist of the amphibians and reptiles of Honduras, with additions, comments on taxonomy, some recent taxonomic decisions, and areas of further studies needed Author Mccranie, James R. text Zootaxa 2015 3931 3 352 386 journal article 10.11646/zootaxa.3931.3.2 f364a7c8-cda2-4674-ba93-7627982eb550 1175-5326 240338 93296D90-0DF4-4FD3-A63F-8354EC89D40C FAMILY KINOSTERNIDAE Agassiz 1857 , 249 (2 genera, 3 species) Kinosternon Spix 1824 , 17 (2 species) Kinosternon albogulare (Bocourt 1870, 24 in A.H.A. Duméril et al. 1870–1909 ). Recent phylogenetic studies in Iverson et al . (2013) and Spinks et al. (2014) recovered a paraphyletic K. scorpioides Linnaeus (1766 [p. 352]), so I use a name that is usually placed as a subspecies of K. scorpioides for Honduran populations in anticipation of future studies. This subject is discussed in more detail in McCranie (in prep.; non-dactyloid lizards, crocodyles, turtles), who also has genetic data demonstrating the paraphyletic nature of K. scorpioides . Kinosternon leucostomum (A.M.C. Duméril & Bibron 1851, 17 in A.M.C. Duméril & Duméril 1851) Staurotypus Wagler 1830 , 137 (1 species). See Iverson et al . (2013) and Spinks et al . (2014) for opinions on whether or not to consider the Family Staurotypidae Gray (1869 [p. 180]) as valid for turtles of the genera Claudius Cope (1866 [p. 187]) and Staurotypus . Staurotypus triporcatus (Wiegmann 1828, col. 364)
