Holotype . , BRAZIL : Santa Catarina : Nova Teutônia, F . Plaumann [ LACM ENT 248929 ] ( MZSP ; examined). Species recognition. This species is similar to D. atrilinea , in that both have a concavity that is elongate, tapered, and filled with spinuli, but in D. canaliculata the concavity is more open distally and not outlined by a black carina. Description (color based on newly collected Macaé de Cima specimen). Body length: 1.66–1.88 mm . Head: Frons brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, brown. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta two-thirds length of posterior seta. Pleuron dark brown. Mean costal length 0.47 wing length, range 0.47– 0.48. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa dark brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, short, truncate. Posterior face of hind femur with basal group of peglike setae on rounded lobe; more distally with short concavity followed by elongate, tapered, spinuli-filled concavity ( Figs 227–228 ). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow. Distribution. Southeastern Brazil . Other material examined. 2♂ specimens from the following localities: BRAZIL : Rio de Janeiro : Macaé de Cima ( LACM ); Santa Catarina : Nova Teutônia ( MZSP ) .
