Lectotype designated by Clench & Turner (1950) . The report of this species from Italy by Grillo (1877) is a misidentification. The name Cerithium nigrocinctum hides a complex of species, and its true range is limited to southeastern Canada to the southern U.S.A. (M.R. Fernandes, pers. com. January 2020 ). The record from Florida, United States , by Lee (2009) is a misidentfication of Triphoris dupliniana Olsson, 1916 ( Fernandes & Pimenta 2020 ).
