Taxonomic revision of the family Eosentomidae (Hexapoda: Protura) from Japan 2701 Author Nakamura, Osami text Zootaxa 2010 2010-12-03 2701 1 109 journal article 11755334 Eosentomon kimum Imadaté Fig. 35 Eosentomon kimum Imadaté, 1964a: 43 , figs. 5–12; Imadaté, 1974b: 272 , fig. 137. Specimens examined. Holotype male, NSMTAp 4, Otoineppu , 20-X-1962 , G. Imadaté leg.; 2 males , NSMTAp 121, Nishishibetsu , Shibetsu –shi, Hokkaido , 3-IX-1969 , K. Niijima leg. Additions to description. On head, seta rs simple, slightly thicker and shorter than sr ( Fig. 35A ). On maxillary palpus ( Fig. 35B ) sensillum md longer than ml . Mandible rounded terminally ( Fig. 35C ). On hind tarsus ( Fig. 35D ) D2 and D4 spine-like, more slender than D5 . On abdominal tergite VIII ( Fig. 35E ) P1a' without basal dilatation and anterior to P2 , P2a linear. Remarks. The holotype was not in good condition. Therefore, I examined two other specimens from Nishishibetsu, Hokkaido collected by Dr. K. Niijima, but they were also not in good condition so that some characters could not be observed. I examined other two specimens labeled as " E. kimum ?" reported in Imadaté & Ohnishi (1979) : 1 male from Nanatsunuma ( Hokkaido , 23-VIII-1977 , J. Ohnishi leg.), and 1 male from Shizunai ( Hokkaido , 5-VIII-1975 , T . Satoh leg.), both identified by the late Dr. Imadaté ( Imadaté’s Proturan Collection No. 1139 2 and 1137 in NSMT , respectively). They also were not in good condition. However , they were different from E. kimum in the shape and position of P1a , which was sensillum-like and on the same level with P1–P2 on abdominal tergites VVI (delicate and posterior to P1–P 2 in E. kimum ). Hence these specimens are presumably an undescribed form similar to E. kimum . As they were males and not in good condition, it is preferable to leave this form undetermined until females can be obtained . Distribution. Japan ( Hokkaido ).
