Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 11: 484– 485, 1913. —TYPE: MEXICO . Veracruz or Puebla : Volcán de Orizaba , Ahuayeca , 7,500–8,000 ft. , C. B. Heller 205 ( holotype : W-0001947 [scan!]). Bitter (1912b , 1913a ) and later authors ( Child 1990 ) include this species, implicitly, in sect. Herpystichum , allying it closely to S. dalibardiforme , but its thickly coriaceous leaves and pseudostipules do not fit the concept of sect. Herpystichum presented here. Instead, based on morphological and molecular data (E. J. Tepe and L. Bohs, unpubl. data), it is a member of sect. Anarrhichomenum .
