Identification.
Body elongated; mouth ventral; maxil- lary barbel short, slender and free distally; teeth slender and bicuspid, central cusp larger than lateral; premax- illa with 17 to 21 teeth; dentary with 16 to 22 teeth. Body covered by odontodes; odontodes of snout larger in size than remaining in head; tuft of enlarged odontodes on posterior tip of parieto-supraoccipital; odontodes on head and trunk well defined, randomly arranged; body completely covered by bone plates, median series 24 or 25 perforated plates by lateral line; cleithrum and cora- coid completely exposed; abdomen partially covered by plates; lateral abdomen plates larger and forming regu- lar rows of three or four elongated plate on each sides; median abdominal plate absent; small anal plates pres- ent. Overall body coloration darkened; dorsal, anal, pec- toral, and pelvic fins hyaline; caudal fin black with two rounded hyaline areas, large on dorsal and small on ventral lobes.
