Diagnosis.
Among
Papua New Guinea
species, only this and
M. medioconstrictus
can be characterized by the presence of a quadrisetose pronotum, three dorsal elytral setae, and both subapical and apical elytral setae. The subapical seta is positioned within the seventh elytral stria apicad the apical juncture of striae 3 and 4, and the apical seta occurs just laterad the apex of stria 2 as it curves toward the sutural stria. This species can be diagnosed by the distinctly punctate pronotal median base, with about 20 round punctures on each side surrounded with distinct microsculpture consisting of isodiametric and slightly transversely stretched sculpticells. Conversely, the pronotal median base in
M. medioconstrictus
is less distinctly punctate, with only about 14 smaller, isolated punctures each side that are surrounded by shallowly margined, transverse sculpticells. The anterior transverse pronotal impression is also very deep and well defined medially in this species (
Fig. 2
), whereas it is much less developed in
M. medioconstrictus
(
Fig. 3
) where its position is defined by the raised anterior callosity, not by any depression of the disc posterad the callosity. The eyes of
M. baehri
are much more protruding, with the ocular lobe behind the eye nearly perpendicular to the gena, whereas the posterior surface of the ocular lobe in
M. medioconstrictus
is broader behind the eye and meets the gena at a distinctly obtuse angle. Standardized body length is
5.05 mm
.
Distribution and Habitat.
The elevation of Mt. Capella, the
type
locality, is consistent with that reported in
Wikipedia (2017)
with the associated geographic coordinates used in
Fig. 32
. Based upon
Google Earth (2017)
, the mountain at this elevation is forested.
