This genus of 47 species occurs worldwide, but mainly in the Americas and the Palaearctic Region (
García Morales
et al
. 2016
). Three Palaearctic species occur in continental Africa, all north of the Sahara; of these,
P. superbus
is the most widespread and polyphagous but it has not been recorded causing plant damage (
García Morales
et al
. 2016
).
