Rhyacophila chembo bigu
,
new subspecies
Figs 10–12
.
Male. Body length of single known specimen
7 mm
, length of each forewing 8.5 mm, width of each forewing 3.5 mm, length of each antenna
6 mm
. Body, antennae, palpi, wings, abdomen and legs yellowish brown.
Male genitalia (
Figs 10–12
). Apicodorsal lobe of segment IX (a.l.IX.,
Figs 10, 11
) elongate triangle with pointed distal apex curved downward in lateral view. Preanal appendages (pr.,
Fig. 10
) elliptical in lateral view. Anal sclerites (a.s.,
Figs 10, 11
) irregular in shape, longer than preanal appendages with dagger-shaped projection on proximal base directed ventrocaudad in lateral view. First segment of each inferior appendage (f.s.,
Fig. 10
) trapezoidal; dorsal lobe of second joint of each inferior appendage (s.j.,
Fig. 10
) short, with rounded dorsal corner, ventral lobe short with straight, oblique distal margin, with slight indentation between lobes in lateral view. Endotheca (end.,
Figs 10, 12
) broad tube in lateral view, funnel-shaped in caudal view; phallicata (ph.,
Figs 10, 12
) narrow tube directed caudad distally, moderately long, shorter than parameres in lateral and caudal views; parameres (par.,
Figs 10, 12
) long, slender, narrow, directed caudodorsad in lateral and caudal views; ventral lobe absent; dorsal appendages of phallic apparatus (d.ap.,
Figs 10, 12
) finger-like processes, moderately long, with obtuse apices directed upward, each with two small hooks on dorsal margin in lateral view.
Female. Unknown.

Differential diagnosis.
This subspecies of
R. chembo
Schmid 1970
belongs to the
Rhyacophila khimbarpa
Group of the
R. divaricata
Branch (
Schmid 1970
)
. The male genitalia of the new subspecies are very similar to those of
Rhyacophila chembo chembo
Schmid 1970
(plate XXXIV, figs 7–8) from Juhm La, Kameng,
India
, and
Rhyacophila chembo lartsepa
Schmid 1970
(plate XXXIV, fig. 9) from Barasu, Pauri Garhwal,
India
, but differs from them in that:
1. The preanal appendages are elliptical (the ventral margin of each the preanal appendages in
R
.
chembo chembo
is straight).
2. Each of the anal sclerites has a basal dagger-shaped projection (this projection is absent in
R. chembo chembo
and
R. chembo lartsepa
).
3. The phallicata is a long tube (not bifurcate as in
R. c. chembo
).
4. The dorsal appendages of the phallic apparatus are moderately long and each has two small hooks on the dorsal margin (they are short and without hooks in
R. c. chembo
).
5. The parameres are present (absent in
R. c. chembo
).
6. The ventral lobe of the second joint of each inferior appendage is short and has a straight, oblique distal margin (not elongate with a rounded distal margin as in
R. c. chembo
).
Etymology
. Named for the place where the new subspecies was collected.
