Diagnosis.
TL
4.4–4.9 mm
; EW 2.0–
2.3 mm
; see
Table 1
for other body measurements. Elytron with a posterolateral submarginal stria and 10 discal striae (
Fig. 2
); male protibia ventrobasally without emarginations; median lobe similar to a bird’s head (
Fig. 20a
); pronotum in both sexes usually without strioles on disc, strioles if present, restricted to sides.
Copelatus caelatipennis angustatus
is externally very similar to
C. caelatipennis princeps
and
C. caelatipennis fragilis
Sharp, 1882
, but can be separated by its pronotum that is usually without strioles on the disc in both sexes.
Ecology.
Previous to this study, the habitat of
C. caelatipennis angustatus
had not been known as all specimens reported were collected at light (
SPANGLER 1981
). This suggests that this species is a good flyer. In
Cuba
,
C. caelatipennis angustatus
was collected in lentic (permanent and temporary) environments and is predominantly associated with turbid waters and muddy habitats.
Distribution.
Widely distributed in
Cuba
(
Fig. 25
). Also known from southern Florida (
YOUNG 1963
;
EPLER 1996
,
2010
;
LARSON et al. 2000
).
