and Murgab Rivers.—General distribution: North America; Eastern Europe to central Asia. Widely introduced elsewhere.—Habitat: This species inhabits large and medium-sized lowland rivers, backwaters, and well-vegetated lakes. Spawns in shallow, warm, and well vegetated riverine habitats without current. Freshwater.
