Remarks
Pseudopsis gansuensis
belongs to the
P. sulcata
complex, based on external morphology (
Figure 1
). This species was originally described from a spot
25 km
east of Xiahe County in
Gansu
, and later recorded from the Qinling Mountains in
Shaanxi
(
Zerche 1998
,
2003
). I have
two males
and
one female
from Taibai Mountain, the highest mountain of Qinling. Both males were dissected to check the aedeagus (
Figure 3
(a,b)) and terminal abdominal segments (
Figure 8
(c)). It appears that the diagnostic narrow apical portion of the median lobe of the aedeagus, the rounded apex of the median lobe, and the short parameres are stable between the population of
Gansu
and
Shaanxi
. The apical structure of the endophallus on the left side is composed of a single row of large spines in the population of
Shaanxi
, while the endophallus includes two rows of similar, but slightly smaller, spines overlapping one another in the population of
Gansu
(
Zerche 1998
, fig. 1). The posterior margin of sternite IX (
Figure 8C
) of this species is slightly emarginate. The epipleural carinae of the elytra are not visible in dorsal view.
