Mantispa femoralis Banks, 1933 , was described from Coorg in Karnataka . However, Navás (1914) had already described a species from North America with same name. Therefore, M. femoralis Banks was a junior primary homonym of M. femoralis Navás, 1914 , and was replaced by Ohl (2004a) , with the replacement name based on the type locality, as M. coorgensis . It is very similar to Mantispilla indica Westwood , but can be differentiated by the dark pterostigma of each wing, the dark streak on each femur, and the dark bases of the tibiae. So, based on these characteristics, which are actually the diagnostic characteristics of Mantispilla , this species is placed in Mantispilla as Mantispilla coorgensis comb. nov.
