This species is geographically and altitudinally widely distributed in Guatemala with records from the departments of Alta Verapáz , Baja Verapáz , Suchitepéquez , Escuintla , Zacapa and Guatemala between 1000 and 2100 m. It is very similar to G. dentatum having similar color and habitus but with different hooks, paraproctum and subgenital plate in the male genitalia. Females of the two species are very similar and difficult to separate from one another with the ovipositor barely longer and with distinctly less denticles on dorsal edge of distal portion; subgenital plate wider than long and with short spine in G. karnyi ( Gorochov & Cadena-Castañeda, 2016 ) .
