Ornebius is the most diverse genus in the Mogoplistinae, with 130 extant species (subspecies), distributed over South and Central America, Africa, South and East Asia , Australia , India , and the Pacific Ocean Islands (Otte et al. , 2005). Distinguished from other genera by the following characters: anterior tibia with internal tympanum; females apterous, males with wings reduced, stridulatory apparatus and pronotum extended posteriorly to cover the base of the mirror. This species group differs from the other species groups mainly in that the genitalia consists of an inner phallus and external sclerites. The basal lamellar end of the phallus contracted into a tube; outer sclerites basally located at the lower edge of the phallus, medially curved and bifurcated into two flaps overlying the upper of the phallus.
