Diagnosis (based on J.L. Barnard & Karaman 1991 ). Flagellum of antennae 1 and 2 with 4 or fewer articles. Maxilliped palp article 3 not distally produced. Pereopod 7 basis posterior margin angled and expanded ventrally, anterior margin of lobe (close to junction with ischium) setose (usually). Telson longer than broad, deeply cleft. Supplementary characters: head long and generally parallel sided. Head anteroventral corner produced (except in B. profundi ). Antenna 1 small, clubbed shaped, not reaching past peduncle of antenna 2. Antenna 2 extended and enlarged, peduncle and flagellum bearing long glass-like setae. Gnathopods reduced and setose. Urosomite 1 weakly carinate (except B. esferis ).
