Figs. 17–22 Leptonema serratum sp. nov. is a member of the L . speciosum Group, as defined by Flint et al. (1987) . It is closely related to L. stigmaticum Navás , sharing similarities in general structure of the phallus, mainly in processes d , and complex b-c . This new species differs from L. stigmaticum by having the basal branch of process d longer and serrate apically, and process g bifid at apex. Furthermore, the new species has the dorsal margin of complex b -c serrate mesally, while L. stigmaticum has only a few spines on this margin. Description. Adult male ( Figs. 17–22 ): Length of forewing: 14.0– 15.5 mm (n=5). Head, antennae, maxillary palps and legs stramineous in alcohol. Wings light brown, without maculae. Malar space narrow, about 1/5 height of eye. Frontal setal wart very large, between antennal bases; 1 pair of small antennal setal warts not clearly delimited; 1 pair of large, subtriangular posterior setal warts behind eyes; 1 pair of slender setal warts on postgenal area with 6 stout long dark setae and several small ones. Vertex area between posterior warts with 1 pair of small, narrow elevations, with a longitudinal mesal shallow depression (probably corresponding to reduced ocelar setal warts). Maxillary palps 5-segmented, long, setose; segment III about 2/3 length of segment II; segment V extremely long, about the length of all other segments together ( Fig. 17 ). Tibial spur formula 2-4-4. Abdominal sternum II with short mesal suture; sternum V with pair of semicircular processes ( Fig. 18 ). Male genitalia ( Figs. 19–22 ): Segment IX short in lateral view ( Fig. 19 ); in dorsal view with narrow Vshaped keel ( Fig. 20 ). Segment X with wart a large, oval; warts b and c absent; lateral lobes, in dorsal view, slightly expanded, each with small setal area laterally, apex rounded, bearing short setae; mesal lobes reduced ( Figs. 19, 20 ). Inferior appendages 2-segmented, basal segment longer than apical segment, each basal segment with dorsal tuft of long setae on distal portion; apical segments nearly 2/5 length of basal segments, with short spinulous setae on inner margins ( Fig. 21 ). Phallus tubular, with phallobase short, broad and with pointed apex ( Fig. 19 ); processes g well developed, tapering apically, bifid at apices ( Fig. 22 ); processes b and c fused to form complex pointed apically, slightly upturned, dorsal margin serrate mesally; process d well developed, broad at base, with small basal branch turned caudad and long branch serrate apically; processes e and f absent; mesal lobe beneath process a with several minute spines and serrate, pointed projection. Phallotremal sclerite indistinct. Female: Unknown. It is derived from the Latin word serra , that means serrate, or toothed like a saw.
