Serraseius

.
Type
species.
Serraseius caicara
Moraes, Barbosa & Castro, 2013: 315
Main distinguishing characteristics.
Dorsal shield mostly imbricate (smooth behind
Z4
). Idiosomal setal pattern 10A:7F/JV-3:ZV-3 (
J2
,
Z1
and
Zv3
absent); all dorsal idiosomal setae (including
r3
and
R1
) serrate; most dorsal setae elongate, except
j1
and
J5
.
Sternal
shield lightly sclerotised, with anterior and posterior margins indistinct, but apparently with a lobe on posterior margin.
Ventrianal
shield ovoid, reduced, bearing only one pair or pre-anal setae (
Jv2
).
Spermathecal
calyx cone-shaped (mentioned as funnel-shaped by
Moraes
et al
, 2013
).
Fixed
and movable cheliceral digits with two teeth each.
Leg
macrosetae absent.
Male
ventrianal shield with three pairs of pre-anal setae arranged in a triangular pattern; spermadactyl of the
type
L-shaped
.
Remarks.
In the original description of this genus, it was mentioned to have the idiosomal setal pattern 10A:7D/ JV-3:ZV-3 (
J2
,
S2
and
Zv3
absent). In the description of the second species in this genus (
S
.
nordestinus
Araujo & Oliveira, 2023
), the seta considered previously to be
Z1
was interpreted as
S2
given that it was clearly closer to the liryfissure
ids1
than to
id1
. Hence, this genus seems to resemble the taxa placed in
Neoseiulini
, differing from them by lacking
Z1
and by having very lightly sclerotised sternal shield, which apparently has a median lobe on the posterior margin. It also resembles
Kampimodromini
, differing by lacking
Zv3
, by having
S4
and c-shaped atrium of the spermatheca. The two species presently known in this genus were described from
Brazil
, from plants.
